Is going to uni to be a teacher worth it in this day and age?
I have about $5000 in debt but that's it so $$$ isn't the concern.

Its a shitty paying career that has among the highest rate of burnout syndrome in the working world.
Some people end up loving it though - and in some cases it is the only option you have when it comes to putting some degrees to practical use.

I mean, i personally would prefer suicide to working with a bunch of ungrateful brats, but you do get a strong union, government benefits, long vacations, and tenure that makes you practically unfireable. Low pay though.

How bad is pay?
I looked around and salaries for middle/secondary school don't look that bad. $45k is the median in my state and that's fine for me but I understand that's probably after years of tenure. Benefits seem to be OK as well.
Plus I like working with kids and helping people and history is my big interest so it looks like the best route for me as of right now. I don't want to be a code monkey or accountant my whole life and engineering is a little out of my league.
