Hello /adv/
Wasn't sure if this question suited /fit/ more than here but decided they'd be big cunts about it.
I understand a lot of people experience back pain and most just keep it to themselves. I'm 18, and in the past two years my shoulders have gone from being okay to 24/7 pain. Sometimes I'll be at college and won't do work because it's just there.
I get a lot of cracking and grinding.
If I was older I wouldn't bother asking about it as it would obviously be age, but at 18 this should not be a problem.
I am relatively /fit/, have good diet etc. I've found the only relief is when I swim or drinking alcohol. This relaxes me and the pain is relieved.
What do? I can't swim and get drunk all the time.

I know this will sound like very stupid idea, but have you tried to see doctor and let him to send you to specialist?

No, my parents think I'm a hypochondriac so I've never mentioned it other than grumbling about the tightness and asking for massages. I was considering mentioning it at my next annual checkup

Just adding, I've started trying yoga but this is only a temporary relief. Another time when it doesn't ache is when I'm exhausted e.g. I do hiking competitions and at the end you're too tired to feel much, maybe the shoulders relax.

Dont be dumb OP. Others dont feel your pain. Sadly pain in back can be from 9999 things and probably even your own doctor will tell you that you are panzy.
But know this. There are people (like me) who have never really felt pain in back (the only exception is when I had doms from sport, but that are muscles) and i am 25 atm.
So be brave boy, dont let your doctor to shrug you off and spin some doctors to action to get you properly tested. Dont wait, call today to there asap.
Maybe they will just tell you to get massage. But it is better to be safe than sorry.
Good luck OP!

Your chest and front delts are significantly stronger than your back.
There is a muscle called the rhomboids that contracts the shoulder blades and is responsible for good posture. You more than likely have a rounded upper back and a kyphotic spine.
You need to do strengthen your back, like you really need to or else you'll end up getting herniated disk in your thoracic (upper) spine and neck.
You need to get a pull-up bar and do hangs for as long as you can, also do lat stretches. Look up lat stretches online, rhomboid stretches, rear delt stretches and trapezius stretches.
Strengthening the lats, rear delts and rhomboids will completely combat the problems you have right now. That's what doctors won't tell you is that 99% of back injuries can be avoided with proper strength, mobility work and conditioning.
Look into the concept of progressive overload and grab yourself a pull-up bar. Just do pull-ups twice a week with a stretching routine. You will be so much happier.
Also pull-ups work the whole upper body so you can expect reasonable results even if you don't want to get jacked I really advise everyone to try atleast doing pull-ups every week.

Also Swedish massages for muscles in your back are a great idea >>18185734
Like he said. They release the muscles causing you discomfort.

I've always had skinny ass shoulders and have poor posture sering as I sit on a science lab stool for 2/3rds of my lessons at college.
I've been working out my rhomboids for a couple of months since I did some research. I like to go climbing and part of that training is doing overhand and underhand pull ups. I do the overhand wide grip. Can do about 25 of those.
The thing is, even after this specific muscle training my joints and muscles are still aching/in pain. If I raise my right arm the entire ball joint pops and it ferls like the bone slips out of the joint. EVERY TIME.
