In modern west, generally speaking, marriage is a shit deal for the man, that just begs you to be fucked over when the inevitable divorce comes.

in america, not really. and its not strictly women's fault, its just the way the tides have turned, there was a time when marriage was such a shit deal for women but it was their only option.

we are entering an age of independence. and as a result our codependent institutions are starting to fall apart. if things keep going in this direction marriage will either adapt or be increasingly rare.

If you don't want to have kids, it doesn't matter much. But depending on where you live, marriage can be real fucking important to you as a man to ensure that you have rights to your kids if you have an issue with your wife.

It really depends on the people involved and what they want to get out of it. Some people want to find someone to settle down with and marriage is a good motivator to stay faithful and add stability to life. Some people like it for symbolic reasons. Some people do it for legal reasons. But if two people don't see a purpose in getting married then they don't really have to.

Yeah, this too. If neither of you really care to get married then you shouldn't worry about it, but if you don't and she does and you've been together for six years, she's gonna start having some expectations soon if she doesn't already and the longer you wait to talk about it, the more resentful she'll be if she really doesn't like your decision.
