How many job applications did you send out before landing a job?

it's a numbers game. sometimes you get lucky. sometimes you don't.
>>
>>18181683
They approached me
>>
>>18181683
20ish
Had 4 interviews before I got a job.
Before I took said job I was offered a much larger salary by a direct recruiter who didn't even ask me for a resume.

She's comely.

Her surgeon does good work.
>>
>>18181685
you landed your first job by being approached by someone else?
>>
>>18181688
Yes, that's what happens when you get good grades / build something interesting in your final year of university, companies actually want to hire you

30-40 with maybe 4 interviews with a few lined up before I accepted the one offered.

I just asked my cousin Padmanabha to land me a job in Google as a senior dev after completing my Java course
>>
Not a single one. Was approached right after medical school by two hospitals, decided to go with one of them. Hard job, but very good money. Hospitals suck, however.
Because I live alone, I was able to save up pretty much everything I made and now I'm studying computer science. So yeah.
>>
>>18181692
Bout the same as this guy, sent out like 20-30 and had 3 interviews. Accepted the first one. The whole process took about 2 months.
>>
>>18181689
What did you study?

What interesting thing did you build in your final year?
>>
>>18181697
>What did you study?
Computer Science with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence
>What interesting thing did you build in your final year?
I can't talk many details (as I technically don't own the rights to it any more), but lets just say I now work for a large defence contractor, and there are probably a few less terrorists in the world because of what I worked on

not really. i'm at stanford and google, facebook, palantir, etc... come to campus but don't make offers like that. it would be insane to bring you into an existing team without evaluating your ability on their terms.
>>
0. They've always have approached me first.
>>
>>18181683
I still haven't gotten a job. Instead I cofounded a tech company in Palo Alto.

Sent out like 5 when looking for an internship I needed to pass uni. Had one interview but got rejected, sunk into the depression. Then I asked my dad and he just got a friend to sign the papers without me doing shit. 6 months later I started looking again, sent out ~3 applications, got an interview with 1 company, got in. Then a guy I knew and helped a few times at uni got me a job at this company 6 months ago and I had been working there since. Some bullshit with the boss happened recently and some people are talking of leaving the company, but I'd rather work any kind of bullshit instead of living the hell that is unemployment and job searching.

First job: 50-100, I lost count. No qualifications or experience made it tedious.
Second: Applied to 10, but I ended up getting the first one.
Third: The company approached me on LinkedIn, got offered double my previous salary.

I think I'm currently at 8. Apparently I should just adapt a firehose method since a lot of companies don't even reply to you when you apply.

I sent out 20 applications and went to six interviews and had another three over Skype.

All of the jobs were either middle school or high school teacher, but I ended up picking a position in rural Nebraska because it seemed the easiest and it definitely is.

>small class sizes
>well-behaved students
>never have to sit in traffic
>can live comfortably for cheap

I don't regret not choosing another job offer in Los Angeles that paid only a bit more than this. I lived in Los Angeles while I was attending college and I don't want to go back.
>>
>>18181720
Only a neet wouldn't know about NDA's
>>
>>18181724

You would be teaching offsprings of illegals and blacks. I would gladly have chosen Nebraska over Los Angeles even if the pay is smaller
>>
>>18181683
>How many job applications did you send out before landing a job?

0.
I knew a guy who was in a position to give me a job.
He gave me a job and didnt regret it.

Its really important to know people. Because from a employer standpoint its a big hassle to hire completely unknown people. Its always way way better if you someone already knows you.
Most people in my company got here this way. atleast developers.

Go to meetups and conventions and stuff like that, itreally helps.

>I can't talk many details (as I technically don't own the rights to it any more), lets just say I now work for a large defence contractor, and there are probably a few less terrorists in the world because of what I worked on

People doubt you not because you don't want to disclose the details of your project, but because you can't describe the problem you solved in simple words without revealing any confidential information, which should be obvious if you actually understood it. Funny how you mention this, when I was a third year, I took a CS course (not my major btw, just took it because machine learning is easy) and my programming project is about multi-class classification that could be used to identify the group of terrorists given some features about an attack. Comparisons were made between SVM, adaboost, PCA + clustering, LDA + clustering and CNN. I'm sure none of those concepts can be owned by anyone :)

Also I am sure that a student can at best add some technical modifications to an existing algorithm, and the problem itself is already well known in the field, meaning a description for your project (that doesn't violate NDA) is already there.
You would've known this if you aren't full of shit.
>>
>>18181683
Dozens of grad program applications in 2015. Got none.

Sent 5 in 2016, ended up getting 2 offers. Its all fucking luck
>>
I sent out 2 for 2 different internships, the second of which I landed. After that I sent out another 2 for full time jobs, one of which was at the place I did my internship and I got that too.
>>
>>18181695
Doctor or nurse or what? What's the worst thing about medicine?
>>
>>18181683
1, and I got offered 3 jobs
>>
I'm a doctor so I get invited for a job interview for every curriculum I send, the job interview is basically about how wonderful would be for me to work for them
>>
It's not what you send, it's where you send it.

PROTIP: if your parents put you in a worthless trash neighborhood then your real job is getting out of that place. Real life discriminates against trash and there's not going to be any political correctness to shield you from it.
>>
>>18181683
My boyfriend sent 107 applications.
Then he got an internship.

2 years later he's making twice as much as we'd need and had job offers from those companies who rejected him.
>>
I suck at interviews but I'd say I have about a 50%+ success rate of getting an interview when I'm suitable for the role. That's been true most of my life. Whether it was now or when I began applying for shitty retail jobs.

I don't know where the idea that it's a "numbers game" comes from. It's more a case of finding a job that you want, that you are qualified for, and being ready to apply for it quickly. Then researching the company and making a really good application/CV/whatever for it. To my mind if you haven't spent at least an hour getting an application ready, then you didn't really 'apply'. You just kinda just hoped their standards were going to be really low and you'd luck out and be the ideal person for the job. Which might work if you're super-duper qualified and it's not competitive.
>>
>>18181683
About 5-10 in the past but got last job due knowing the boss from a previous job.

>>18181698
How did supporting the biggest terrorist organization there is lower the number of them?

>>18182275
How do you manage to suck at interviews? Once you got this far it's basically about not sperging out, unless they have hundreds of much better candidates lining up.
>>
176 before I got an offer, I'm at over 200+ and now I'm suddenly getting interview after interview.
>>
Literally hundreds just for entry level retail.

Honestly I lost count

But eventually I did land a good one.

If I applied the same effort and persistence to find a gf id probably get another one too. But rejection murders my soul
>>
>>18182236
Literally where I'm am right now.
How does your bf handles offers should those that rejected him? I laugh and I delete the email.
