I don't mean to scare you, OP but that's what happened to my cat. We took her to the vet after she spent the night meowing and crawling on the floor and they said she had cancer tumors and liver problems. We had to put her down.

It happened so suddenly. Animals are tough bastards - you don't know if they're sick until they are really sick.
