I'm currently serving in the army, because in my country you have a law that forces you to serve for 3 years after high school, and as a soldier I can't grow a beard without a good reason.
For example, my friend wrote that he wants to grow a beard in honor of his dead father.

I don't need the excuse to be real, but good.

Say your Jewish and it's a part of your faith

It's too much work to fake being a religious, because they check if that's true

>in my country you have a law that forces you to serve for 3 years after high school,

I often think this would be a good thing for the entirety of North America. It would definitely help some loser grow a pair of balls, teach skills, and help the economy.

What country are you from, OP? Did your friend's excuse work?

>and help the economy
Honestly I don't disagree that this would be a good thing in the main (for all the other reasons you said), but this isn't true at all. The idea that defense spending helps the economy is a huge fucking myth that just won't die.

It's necessary and I'm not begrudging it, but it doesn't help the economy.

I didn't mean the actual military itself, but the training and education you can get through the military would mean less of a drain on public spending in the education sector, as well as provide skilled workers post-military with (perhaps) less training required, depending on the field.

From Israel.
Forcing a huge amount of people like in North America to recruit can create a lot of problems.
There are already many problems in this tiny country, but you're right about making us less pussies and more obedient when it comes to real life.

My friend excuse worked, although a lie, he really doesn't have a father so they can't argue.
Still looking for ideas

Why not use the same line as he did, except a tweak? Dead uncle, or some such? Or say it's for a fund raiser or charity?

>society cucking men even harder
Fuck off

And this little douchebag, who is up way past his bedtime, is just one example of what some guidance and disciplinary training could avoid, ladies and gentlemen.

>It would definitely help some loser grow a pair of balls,
didn't help germany and sweden
>teach skills,
that could be taught in a week at school
>and help the economy
putting a huge hole right when people would join the workforce or get a higher education does the exact opposite

I've never understood the idea that compulsory military service helps toughen up and add value to soft pathetic young. First off it assumes that adults are tough and valuable and young people are less valuable because of some personal flaw or fault, when really it is because they have less life experience, less resources to fall back upon and they are young adults. They are supposed to be a bit more expendable, they kind of are a bit more useless, but this is by design, not because of a flaw. I've never understood why old people, parents even take this position when they are the ones raising these children and creating the culture and society they are raised and socialised in. Don't like your kids to lack discipline? Show some discipline, don't outsource that to the government while whining about how hard you've got it because your supposedly weak minded undisciplined child is too difficult to handle.

Military training on the whole creates miltards. It has very little value in the civilian world. A conscripted army has very little value in the military world especially when you look at the actual number of soldiers possessed by countries that aren't america, china and north korea. They don't need many, it is mostly intelligence and technology instead of bullet sponges. Waves of bullet sponges don't create better armies or individuals, the great and mediocre get blown to pieces just the same. We've been there, it is like people are obsessed with this nostalgia where they imagine the country used to be great when more people were in the army so if you get people in the army the country will be great again. Yeah right, you might as well think that wearing worn out running shoes will make you fitter.

Compulsory military service likely looks like a bunch of companies get rich offering substandard and traumatic boot camps where kids get shouted at a lot and forced to run around in groups and do star jumps for two years. So proud, so brave. Would you like to know more?

Growing a beard for chairty? People do that?

I mean, we do have a problem and keeping the young out of the workplace is one way to delay solving it. The industrialisation of agriculture and industry have made many industries automated and now we are seeing online systems and even simple AI's/chatbots displacing service sector roles. There aren't enough jobs any more if everybody continues to work 40+ hours a week. We reach a saturation point with goods and services, growth is eventually unsustainable.

Pensions always were a ponzi scheme and governments are slowly increasing the age of retirement, decreasing access to free or subsided health care and attempting to encourage private pensions. So you've got less jobs decreasing all the while and an ageing population who can't afford, or won't exit the work place.

So you keep children in some form of schooling or higher education for 2-7 years to match the increases the age of retirement. You make them apprentice as sandwich artists or customer service representatives. You imply they are unable to do these things without this training because they are worthless and stupid (yah I know, fuck young people right, like I'm directly insulting your ability to raise your kids, but lol amirite?) and you get the tax payer to fund it because business don't want to know, but hey they'll benefit from cheap labour and some friends of ours will get richer.

Except them certain people start to swallow too much shit and believe making them run laps for two years will make them more engaged in society. Young people inherit the world, they don't create it, old people have the power and meddle with that, then die and everyone else has to try and fix it.

Bring on a 3 day working week and higher minimum wage. Decrease inequality. Stop making it such a rat race to the bottom.

Do you base every argument you have on some imaginary feelings about it?

>Growing a beard for chairty? People do that?
They do for sure. Google Movember. It used to be an actual charitable thing, but now I think men just use it as an excuse not to shave for the month of November.
People also use real hair for wigs and the like, but... I dunno about facial pube hairs.

Also... this might be a bit if a stretch, but there are companies now that actually turn human hair into diamonds. You could say you're doing that. You could say that the hair has to be a certain length for them to work with. I don't know a lot about the process, but I do know it takes a fucking ton of hair to make into a diamond. You could say you're trying to make one for your mother, or a girlfriend/fiancée... it's a longshot, though.

Oh man looks like you might have caught me out in your cruel logic trap. No dummy, sometimes I have direct or anecdotal experience in something, or I've studied something, or I've knowledge of something related to the topic, sometimes I go on instinct or emotion, but hold up I didn't give any citations, anyway - without knowing the mind of another can we truly know the direct experiential experiences of another to say with definitive certainty that everything isn't based on subjective instinctive emotional response? I mean, what is an opinion anyway?

I did preface it with the word 'likely'. I mean, TV shows with boot camps for bratty children, fitness classes with a military theme, the preconceived idealised themes that support military service (obedience, discipline, physical fitness, group work) are well established. I don't think that compulsory service designed to stiffen up the youth is going to involve an actual conflict with professional armed forces. It would be a military themed experience designed to instil common themes and values.

I've known people in the army, the methodologies in which they train soldiers to act and respond as a team are well known as well, you turn the desire to protect your friends and family into a desire to protect your country, unit and values. You portray nobody as murders, you just encourage them to look out for their friends and do a difficult job that needs to be done because the others are murders who will murder you. You minimise the individual and you emphasise the importance of the whole and the highest goal is to contribute significantly to the success of the whole.

Miltards. We've already got a society of people too caught up in their world to actually stop and think about their time on earth and who it is benefiting.
