Possibly planning on moving to U.S state to work as dentist, what states should I look into/avoid?

You should focus on specific cities/towns over states, but it all really depends on your preferences.
New England and The West is generally more expensive than the rest of the country, but you won't be able to tell which states you've preferred unless you've been to most of them and lived in America most of your life. What exactly are you looking for?
Don't come to Colorado, we don't want anymore people.

I prefer safe areas. I'm planning to visit either this summer or next to take registration exams, but I'd like to live somewhere where I'd make a comfortable living and just generally avoid crime.
I don't care much about making big bucks, and I'm not opposed to educating people about visiting the dentist or helping people with financial burdens on making payments. I don't mind small towns but what would be the difference between living in the city or in a town?

Avoid New Jersey.

Do you have a visa that allows work?
