To keep it brief a girl at work started talking to me. I thought she liked me and I like her. We've hung out a few times but today she sends me a bunch of pics of some girl I've never met and said it was her friend who needed a date for prom and that I should take her. Is it my cynicism talking or was this the only reason she started talking to me in the first place?

If you befriend girls and they're not attracted you, but still recognize that you're a decent guy, they'll set you up with friends. It may not have been her intention, but the result is still the same.
