This. I recommend ebay or craigslist to pick up armies on the cheap. CL is usually a little cheaper, but with less choice. If you're interested in getting the whole experience (modeling, painting, playing), the cheapest way is via chinese recasts. They can be a little tricky to find at first, and you'll have to wait a few months for your shit to get through customs, but you can get stuff for about 1/3-1/2 the price of new geedubs.

Go on dakkadakka forums, they have a thread for buying armies. Use ebay, you can get armies for cheap, even the books for cheap.

Avoid the GW stores. They will charge you out of every penny.
