i had acne for about all of high school now, and the only thing that has worked out of the four years of medication, if you have it bad and it isn't related to not washing your face or anything like that, is accutane, but its pretty hardcore shit and has some not so good side effects, but hey, it gets the job done

Retin-A (tretinoin). It comes in cream and gel formulatins. It's localized, external Accutane, without all the shitty, life-altering side effects. Good shit.

I used Benzoyl Peroxide Gel 10% and it works great. You just dilute it with water a bit before putting it on so it won't overdry your face. And have an oil-free moisturizer to prevent dry skin.
