While I love video games, I only play them for certain hours on weekends or holidays. I put aside most time studying and working. I get good grades but I think I can improve. My friends, however only play video games for multiple hours each day, never do their work, and get high grades. What am I doing wrong?

You're learning work ethic. When it comes down to the line, you're gonna Br the one with time management skills and will get the job done. Your friends may be able to coast along now, but when its time to put in the hard work, they will fuck up

some people are just smarter than others. its unfortunate, but the amount of effort you put in will never equal how much quality comes out.
i can write for hours and hours and make the shittiest fucking script. someone else can spend half an hour and its better than mine.
