I have roughly 8k in debt (none student loans related) should I file for bankruptcy? I have a lien put against me and the debt is most health bills related to having no insurance.
>>
I've been in debt before. 14k. I'm only 21.
I filed for bankruptcy.
It's going well.

It gets you out of shit.
>>
>>18129812
How hard was it and did it take into account liens of any kind? I'm just wondering if I should or not if it's at 8k?
>>
Do bankruptcy now.

With Republican administration they are going to make it so that healthcare debt cant be forgiven in bankruptcy, much like what they did with student loans in the Bush administration.

Its part of the master plan of capturing poor and middle class in permanent and inescapable debt.
>>
>>18129857
Are liens covered in bankruptcy? I was reading that if there is already a judgment against you that there chapter 7 won't clear it?
>>
Depends on where you live.

In America it's okay but if you live in other countries it fucks you up when trying to buy a house or whatever.
>>
>>18129863

IANAL but I am pretty sure the only liens you cant get rid of are tax liens.

Always pay your fucking taxes
>>
>>18129870
I'm in the US Va

>>18129872
Not related to taxes
>>
>>18129797
see if medicaid will pay for your bill and then apply
>>
>>18130117
Already gotten past that point I believe.
>>
>socialist vents political opinions
>socialist screams 'go back to /pol/' in the face of different opinions

Just getting that one out of the way~

United States? You should have already filed for bankrupcy; the sooner you do it the sooner your seven years will be over.

Option 1: hire a lawyer
Pros: they can dispense legal advice and represent you in court
Cons: costs about $2500~$3500 for a real one, and fake one ain't worth a damn thing

Option 2: hire a paralegal
Pros: cheaper than a lawyer, does your paperwork for you.
Cons: still oughta cost at least $300 for their work plus a filing fee of around $350, if the paralegal's fee considerably less than that then you're not paying the cost of the paperwork most likely - beware deals too good to be true. Cannot dispense legal advice or represent you in court.

Option 3: do it yourself
Pros: only costs about $350, and you can MAYBE get a fee waiver if you truly don't have a damn thing to your name. And if you don't have a damn thing to your name, then bankruptcy court will treat you relatively gentle. It's people who hide assets that make them lose their temper
Cons: good luck doing the homework

You're misunderstanding the situation entirely.

When you owe medical debt, you owe a debt to a corporation pretending to be a nonprofit. When you owe a student debt, you owe a debt to the federal government's own bankers.

Can you see now, why the federal government would legislate special protections for themselves? The other off-limits debts are ones the where the government takes a cut of the profits. But in THIS case, it's just a debt to the government.

t. bankruptcy law otaku

try being in over 150k in debt with student loans and credit cards and only making 50/60k annually

not me, but i know too many who are. fuck
>>
Question the lawyer that has a lien on my account is telling me he will take $300 and a promise of $100 a month. I'm going to pay the $300 but the $100 will be paid by a family member. That is fine but in the agreement the lawyer makes it out that my family member will basically have to pay my debt off or they will be in trouble.

Is this legal and if I do this and file for bankruptcy will this be included in my debt or?

Thanks for the post btw
>>
>>18129797

student loans arent taken care of by bankruptcy.

otherwise everyone would finish college, declare bankruptcy, and by the time they're 30 be making great money without ever having to pay back their debt.
>>
>>18130690
Yeah I know that already I'm not worried about it.
>>
>>18130526
it sounds like you opened your family member to be pursued for this debt, at least, regardless of if they are legally obligated to pay it or not. ask another lawyer.
>>
Fuck this country. People shouldn't have to go into debt to stay alive. Do you have any money saved OP, or is it impossible for you to pay it off? Bad thing about bankruptcy is it will fuck up your credit score for awhile.
>>
>>18130968

Healthcare is a human right. Providing free university education (for those that qualify, no more dumb fucks getting into comp sci and only a handful of art history placements will get accepted) is also just flat out a smart idea if you want to build an educated population and a strong economy.

These are predatory industries in America that are enslaving millenials into a future of private tyranny enabled by fascist government in their pockets.
>>
>>18129797

hows your credit? i have near perfect credit and had 11k credit card debt when i was 25, got a low interest bank loan to pay it off. you can maybe do something similar
>>
>>18131002
It's money. Money is a human right?

The money goes straight to big pharma, which they spend on lobbyists and campaign contributions.
>>
>>18130340
How?
>>
>>18131047
500 it's pretty shit

>>18130690
This what I thought but I'm going to talk to this guy again and tell him .Y family friend doesn't want to sign it and I have no other options. I'm probably going to file for chapter 7 right after this is worked out or not. Tomorrow decides my fate with regards to my lien.
>>
>>18129797
You are going to file bankruptcy and ruin your credit for years over a measly 8k? What kind of shit job do you have m8?
>>
>>18131217
You think I have a job?
>>
>>18131217
Socal is a barter economy at this point, good luck paying medical debts without obamacare.
>>
Well I just tried to get the lawyer to take $300 and $100 a month with my family member signing but that didn't work. Lawyer just hung up on me and pretty will probably take all the money I have in there for living expenses.
>>
Final question: should I pay this one loan or go do a chapter 7? I just magically got some money that I'll be able to pay just this debt off but not the others.
