Is it EVER a good idea to admit this on a job application?
I can't see any employer reading 'yes' and going on.

It's kind of a Catch-22 because if you say no and they find out you're lying then that's it. If you say yes then you're out too. The only away around the problem is to not have it in the first place.

There's no way for them to find out. By law the only thing they are allowed to ask your previous employer is to confirm the dates you were employed by them.

What if you were young and stupid when it happened, and you've held full time jobs for long periods of time since, having good references etc?
