what do you do when people try to do some power play on you?
like stating that you are going to do something subtly

This is a really good question. I like the way you worded it. I've come here asking a similar question before, but I didn't know how to phrase it.
In a similar way, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people paint certain situations in a certain light, to their advantage. A good example is, when you're at work and you've been doing a task away from someone else, and later, when they see you they ask "Where have you been hiding?!"
There's no good response. Even if you explain, they've still put the idea that you're lazy and hiding somewhere in everyone else's mind.
The best thing you can do is call those people out on their shit or just ignore them completely, if you can.
Can you give examples? I'm curious about what you mean
I know exactly what you mean, and people pull this shit all the time.

As this person put it, they make it so there literally is no good response. If you get mad, they'll say it was just a joke and you're overrating. But they are legitimately taking a strike at you. They just do so without wanting to have any consequences.
