Children require lots of nurturing. So please don't send it to day care. Be there for the kid, teach them good manners. Give them love, and read to them. Many parents nowadays barely read to their kids.

Kids do a lot of dumb shit. Even after you've told them a thousand times not to; even after being punished a thousand times for the same thing.
Just remember, your kid's a kid and likely to be an idiot about things you take for granted as common sense.
Punish them as much as you feel necessary, but don't insult them by mistaking their kidness for stupididity or laziness.
Speaking as an only child- give em a sibling in time for them to be able to play together and relate to each other. It sucks growing up surrounded by adults outside of school.
