Needs some help deciding on a new laptop. Price limit is $300.

Intended use is: general use with I-net, YouTube, movies, and SOME gaming. I.E. something along the lines of Fallout NV on at least medium settings.

Found one I was kind of thinking of, but a year help would be appreciated.

Dog knocked mine off the coffee table.

This is what I'm looking at currently.

$ 600 is the bare minimum.
Yeah, yeah, it is used but I wouldn't tap that. Save more money and invest at least twice as much because laptops are a different beast than PCs.
>>
Honestly broseph. You're not going to get a gaming laptop at 350. MAYBE you can try your luck on those laptops with AMD "APU" graphics (A8, 10). They're marginally better than Intel Integrated graphics, but that's not saying much.

I don't want you to be disappointed, and Fallout:NV is a good game, but I don't think you will be able to run it on that thing.

I STRONGLY recommend you save up more money and either get a proper PC, or with you insist on laptops, then at least get a lappy with a GT 960m. The 960m is pretty much the entry level graphic chip at the moment. They go on sale for 500-600 new.

Seriously do not get that Thinkpad if you want to do gaming.

So, my current laptop (the one that just broke) was a $800 Samsung back in 2010. It was a basic. BUT, it could still play FONV on medium settings reliably. Got me through a deployment.

So, if that entry level POS can do it, I figure this laptop as well as most newer $300 laptops with MUCH BETTER hardware (and not having experienced 1yr in moondust and multiple explosions) can do it.

I don't know what you consider to be acceptable settings. Some people, who don't know better, accept 15-20 fps -- I don't. F3 and NV are fairly light weight, so maybe you got it running on that expensive laptop way back when.

Whatever the case, the used stuff you're showing on eBay is very dated, and doesn't seem to have the graphical horsepower to game.

I used to be like you, and buy 300-400 laptops, because I was cheap. After getting shit frame rates, I've learned my lessons.

1. I now have a gaming PC
2. Should I ever buy a gaming laptop, I'll fork over 600 minimum for something decent.

Well, just comparing graphics cards, it's leaps and bounds better than what was in my Samsung. The processor speed is about the same(high with boost though), slightly more up to date processor in general though. Mines a 2.4 with peak of 2.7

What's your old laptop specs like?
>>
>>18124518
Is there a reason you can't save up the cash for a 600-700 dollar laptop? I'm not a car salesman, so I'm getting anything out of telling you to spend more.

I'm just telling you, a 'gaming laptop' does not exist for under $600. Cheapest one I saw was $490 for a laptop sporting a 960m during black friday sales.

It's not primarily going to be used for gaming. Mostly when I'm on training trips for work or vacationing.

>310M

Alright man. Enjoy playing at 1068 x 768 at 15 fps or whatever. That old Thinkpad will recreate your good ol' days.tt's your experience. Not mine.
>>
>>18124598
The 310m is what was in my old laptop that got dropped.
>>
>>18124617
I understood that. The shit in that ThinkPad is only marginally, if at all, better than your 2010 laptop, which wasn't good at gaming, despite you 'running' fallout on it. If your fine with 15 fps gaming at low res, then you're set with that crap. Knock yourself out man.
>>
>>18124635
Okay, then what's a good recommendation for a budget? Something with a 960m?
>>
>>18124658
I'm not a laptop guy, so you would be better off googling 'budget gaming laptops'. Last time I checked, 960m was considered the entry level. There's a 950m but it's like 1/2 the performance, not worth it. The 1000 series recently came out, but I'm sure it's too expensive. I don't know about AMD stuff.
>>
>>18124670
It's all good. I appreciate the help and patience.
