You need to have a group and friends and shit,

just walk up to a group and start talking. get drunk enough so you don't care if its awkward. if you're not worried about being awkward. you sound a lot less awkward. so don't worry about it, and start walking up to random people and start chatting them up about anything. is nothing sticking? ask them what they're into (what they enjoy doing, not sex stuff, save that for later).
