Corny is a defence mechanism people use to call things they want to have happen to them but are considered embaressing.

it depends on how well you know him, as well as how seriously you take yourself while you're doing it
if you don't do it very often and wrap serious messages of affection or poetry or shit like that in among more light-hearted wording, the sort of writing style you'd send texts in, that should be ok
obviously the better you know him the better, don't do it if you've only been together a week or some shit
