25 KHV, and I am extremely bad at any kind of socializing.
Do self help books and shit like PUA actually work? I've always been super skeptical about those things because it just sounds like a scam to prey on the desperate. But, I don't see what else I can do at this point

Don't look for socializing. Look for things to do.
Is there anything you're interested in? Are there places where people interested in that are likely to be?
Join a club, take a class, go to a museum or concert, hang out at the comic book store, do volunteer work. You'll be among others doing the same thing, so chatting will be natural. That's how friends are made.
elo polaczek. jak ty mogłeś w polszy nie znaleźć ziomków albo dziwki?
yes it works but it's kind of beta . most of your girl problems will be sorted out anyway once you sort out your life in general.
I recommend the book "models" by mark Manson. it will give you everything you need to know about pickup without being pua material
Chapter 1 of any PUA book ever: stop being a smelly obese slacker before you bother with the dating market.
What /r/TheRedPill says to all new posters who didn't lurk enough: stop being a smelly obese slacker before you bother with the dating market.

No, but yes. Or more specifically, PUA works, but not in the way the PUA community claims. Having social scripts work, not because the scripts are so good, but because bad talk is better than no talk and the scripts make you go for just a little bit longer before the awkward silence sets in. The scripts themselves are mostly crap. They give you something to focus on other than your fears, which is a good thing.
