Do you think I can start befriending (or even try to hook up since we're talking about a girl) a quite long-known acquaintance? I mean we're talking about the classmate of a friend of mine, i "know" her since 3-4 years, but we only talked a few times. Or would that sound weird?

Nothing's weird if you don't make it weird. Be confident about it and you could literally say "I find you attractive and I want to get to know you better" and it wouldn't be weird.
