I am currently in sad situation. I have been at this job for over 5 years. When given the opportunity to lead a shift, someone always shows out. The last time a person showed up to work hung over. After borderline arguing for him to go home he then goes to sleep on the sales floor. I come to work the next day expecting him to be fired, but instead I get an apology and a handshake. Am I being petty for getting upset about this outcome?
I work retail and go through the same shit every day. I am now at a supervisor position and don't give a fuck. That's my key. I quit giving a shit and the day I get fired I won't miss the place. I'm too stupid to quit so as long as they don't fire me I basically have a smooth sailing job because I don't give a shit about anything.
I work and stay focused the entire time I'm there but I don't give a fuck about what I can't get done if they get 3-10 call outs every fucking day. It's not my fault. Their business model selects the type of employees they get and I'm not going to magically snap my fingers and make their business run smooth. I told my boss during my interview "I can't do the impossible, matter of fact if you give me the impossible to do I guarantee it won't get done".
If someone calls out of doesn't perform then their shit ain't going to get done. In retail they don't like that and as a supervisor/manager they don't want to hear that but fuck them. I tell them how it is and they accept it so far.
It's actually good to have a lot of shitbags sometimes because I look like an outstanding employee in there.

But to answer your question, I don't think you're being petty. I hate witnessing or even being around people who fuck shit up and affecting me. I don't even care if it doesn't affect me, I like to see people pay for their fuckups. I'm fair too because when I fuck up I accept responsibility. I hate seeing people get away with shit because if you let one person get away with something then YOU MUST allow others to get away with the same shit otherwise you'd be unfair.
Once someone gets away with something any other person could be right when they say "but he got away with it" and it's true. People not getting fired and getting away with shit inspires other people to do the same bullshit. It's like a fucking disease.

Keep educating yourself and applying to more professional jobs. Sales will turn you into a bad person, do something else.
