I've recently come into possession of an original work of art by a somewhat well known artist. I believe someday this piece could be worth a lot of money, and I'm talking big! Being relatively not wealthy, what are some storage practices I should be doing to keep this piece safe? There are prints for sale, I'll go as far as hiding the original and only displaying the print.
pic totally not related lol

OP here just a little more info about the piece: its a coloured drawing, on a piece of paper slightly smaller than a piece of printer paper.

Hide it the same way you hide things in prison

The best way to store it depends on what kind of piece of art it is. Depending on the paint, the canvas and the frames it could need very specific storage environment. A good rule of thumb is that moisture, heat and light are bad over time, but at the same time too dry or chill environment can also damage the painting. Theft isn't the biggest worry you have; time could very easily ruin the art's value if it is stored wrong and that happens way more often that theft. I'd recommend doing some research and asking professionals what you should do, because it really depends on what kind of piece you're talking about.
