In my opinion that fact that your friend beat it to a picture of you is odd but you should measure the negatives of that statement against the overall length and quality of your friendship before you just give it up.

Is is normal for you to be repulsed, I never felt the same around two of my male best friends who told me they would be interested in trying stuff with me. I understand that's something people would only say if they feel really connected to you, but it does change the direction of thought about the person and you can't do much about that.

I'm a dude and ever since I started fapping when i was a kid, I had a golden rule: never, ever think of or use images of anyone I know to masturbate. In the decade+ since and through addictions to masturbation I am glad to say that I have never broken my rule. It just always felt creepy and rapey to me.

I can also tell you that I'm absolutely 100% in the minority. Almost every guy masturbates to thoughts of people he knows or has seen throughout the day.

Also as far as I know, most girls are not aware of this and would probably not appreciate it.

So basically, i sympathize with your position, OP. However, i am also aware of reality. In essence, the issue becomes, "can i be friends with guys who masturbate?". Well, 99% of all guys do, and maybe 80+% of those do it to people they know. So then the issue basically becomes "can i be friends with guys?".

In other words, it is impractical to hold to this standard.

Of course i know that people beat it to pics of people they personally know. One must be an idiot to not know that. However, my issue isn't with people or my friend doing it to other peoples pictures, it does not affect me in any way, so why should i care? I just think its awkward for me in general and something i personally wouldn't do. My issue is with my friend TELLING me that he has done it to MY pictures. My friend whom i thought was not sexually attracted to me. The least he could have done is to keep it to himself or express his sexual attraction in a different way.
