Hello. I am a 20 year old college student, but this problem started when I was about 14 and has only gotten worse over the years.
I cannot stop sleeping. I get about 8 hours of sleep on school nights, then go to class and fall asleep during lessons, then skip lunch some days in order to sleep some more, then get home and take a nap, then go to work where I fall asleep during slow hours, then go home and sleep some more. Today was my day off, and I slept from 11 pm last night to 10 am, then took a two hour nap at 11:30 am, and now it is 5:45 pm and I am fighting back the urge to fall asleep once again.
I eat healthy food. I get moderate exercise as I don't drive (I fall asleep while driving) and get around everywhere by walking or biking. I take vitamin supplements every morning. I have had my blood tested for iron and vitamin deficiency and everything is normal. What is wrong with me? I don't think it's narcolepsy because I don't "faint" or experience muscle weakness. When I went to my sleep specialist, she would not let me take a sleep study until I had stopped napping after 4 pm for a month, which was impossible for me. What do I do? I'm desperate, every hour I spend sleeping is an hour I could spend doing something else but I just can't stop.
Someone with a similar problem got responses suggesting it might be a thyroid problem or something else that a physician could diagnose
(of course, then some paranoid cunt said a physician would just want to get your a bunch of vaccine shots for money... and it devolved from there.)
Anyways, see a pro.

get a second opinion anon. I'm sorry for this but know this won't always stay the same, you will know more about the problem and even solve it. can you ask friends and family for help?
make an appointment with other doctor
Try some coffee in the morning. I drink about 3 cups in the morning. Also, get some exercise. Just something to get your breathing and heart rate up for about 20-30 minutes a day. Nothing crazy, I don't want you looking better than I do. Not getting exercise will cause a build up of nitrogen in the body and you feel tired all the time. Exercise helps add oxygen to the body and balance shit out. Google what I'm telling you.

What if I really, really hate coffee? I've tried some energy drinks but I think they're pretty bad for you. Not only that, but they don't have any significant impact on my tiredness - I just end up with an increased heartrate AND fatigue.

Start drinking yerba mate. I might be addicted to it but I would also sleep all day long without it
Sounds like narcolepsy.
Some forms are 'gradual' and don't include sudden fainting spells or cataplexy.

Try a mixture of Caffeine (in pill form) and Ephedrine (you can get it over the counter as asthma medicine). That'll perk you up.
But also go see a doctor your clown.
