Got a couple of cavities filled earlier today.
It hurts like hell right now.
They didn't hurt before I went to the dentist, or right after I got out. I never had cavities before.
Is it supposed to hurt, or should I be concerned?
It's normal. The nerves inside your teeth are still adjusting to the new material. If your fillings are amalgam or gold alloy, they also conduct heat/cold much faster than dentin, so try to avoid too hot or cold food.
The pain should start to slowly decrease after a couple of days and diminishes totally after 1-3 weeks of operation. Take some paracetamol meanwhile. When I had a cavity filled, the pain became tolerable after 4 days, and after 2 weeks everything seemed quite normal.
If the pain is hellish and unbearable after a week, the fillings are leaky, wrong size, poorly attached, or there's still caries underneath. If this becomes the case, get a dentistry appointment asap.

Thank you! Feeling much less worried.
I never had a cavity before, I wasn't expecting it to hurt this much after.
I'll take some paracetamol and rest.

The fucking paracetamol meme. OP you should only take it if the pain is literally unbearable. And I mean literally madening. Paracetamol just shits all over your liver.
