Does anyone feel depressed by their economic situation?
I am only 30, is there a new career path I can start where I can hope to be making something like 200K after putting in a solid 10 years of work? Right now I'm looking at maybe making 100K after spending over a decade in the work force, maybe.
When I was younger it was all about following my academic passion but now that I have a family and a doctorate from an Ivy League, I want to be making more money.
I also feel a significant amount of anger because my father, who makes a ton of money in business, ALWAYS told me to go the academic route and that there would be both money and passion there. He said business was soulless.
But let's face it... there isn't that much benefit to being well educated today.

You know, I don't know your father in and out but the fact he makes a lot of money in business and has enough clout to say it's soulless shows he cares.
Money is still important in our society mind you, but as a means to an end. I think your dad merely wants you to find a sense of fulfillment. I've a kid brother who wants to make it it big but all he ever talks about is nothing but the next big get-rich-scheme.
Perhaps business will be a fulfilling path for you, so maybe the message isn't so much that business is soulless so much as one should find a filter between work and home or work and pleasure.
