At some point no after how rosy things might seem it causes tension and you'll lose your friend your gf or both

If they dated for the sex and fun, I'd say no biggie. But if they were together for a longer period emotions will be involved on one side at least, most likely your friend. I wouldn't try unless it was my only only option (and I count meeting new people as a viable option).

Pretty big dick move unless you get verbal consent from your bud. How would you feel if it was the other way round?

Didn't happen to me but happened in my friend group a year or two ago. Needless to say that friendgroup doesn't exist anymore.
