You should not give up as long as the mentioned girl is still free/single, that's some truth in the advice.
But why spending your important resource like time and effort without getting favorable returns?
Have you tried to put your effort into another girl, maybe this one would show you a favorable responses in shorter timeframe.

If she does not want to date you, give up. You are unlikely to change her mind, since you don't control her behavior. Find a girl who does like you and have fun with her, instead.
