What if I use a really large bag? Will the kinetic energy of my smashing be too spread out? Also, I'm smashing HOT Habanero salsa, so is there any chance of injury with this method?

The standard way to do this is if you don't have a blender is to mash it through a wire mesh colander with a spoon.
