I'm going to Tulane next year. I'm intelligent, but I'm poor and my family is poor.
I've accepted the fact that I'm going to be in debt.
I've also made a promise to myself to kms in about 20 or 25 years if my career as a physicist goes nowhere.
Is this alright? Is there some financial rule that I'm missing that won't allow me a quick escape from the debt, even in death? It doesn't just all go away, does it?

What state are you in and how much financial aid are you receiving? Tulane is a good school, but it might not be worth the debt unless your state school is complete trash.

Same situation here anon, but taxpayers will put you through college. Then in the next 8 years, you will return the favor. This was my financial aid package, from a poor, White trash family who lived on government assistant:

> Cal Grant: $12,000/year; ($6k/semester)
> Federal Pell Grant: $6,000; ($3,000/semester)
> School Grant: $7,000; ($3,500/semester)
I only had to take out a $2,000 Federal Student Loan to help pay for textbooks and online classes. This is the only perk of growing up poor, anon. University is essentially free for us.
