I live in the Silicon Valley, and I can affirm the notion that there are a lot of technology/engineering jobs here. However, you need to be prepared for the insane competition.

You'll be competing with Stanford and Berkeley grads who know all programming languages, have tons of internships under their belt, all while having connections within the Valley, just for an entry-level IT position. It's hard competition here because only the cream-of-the-crop companies can thrive amidst the high standard of living and monumentally high rent. Likewise, they only want the best of the best.

If you don't have any of the aforementioned, you're going to need at least a couple years' experience somewhere else to get the same job.
