How can I resettle far away, on a budget of damn near nothing?

Difficulty: I'm in south inland California, reaching any destination besides Los Angeles would involve crossing 600+ km of barren desert and lifeless mountains. Best guess is get a one-way bus ticket, but the question then becomes how to become anything but a futureless hobo.

>why
I spent the past 10 years working for bounced paychecks.

>why not try <trick>
These tricks led to entire different jobs, like studying US bankruptcy law then becoming preparing people's court petitions for them. Job ended the same way, with the payroll account being suddenly empty and the folks responsible being suddenly gone. Once all your customers are broke, you're broke too.

>what's your resume like
A bunch of reference numbers that will tell you "sorry, this number didn't pay his phone bill." Other than that, I've got some trade certifications in jobs which are now performed by machines.

>considered learning a trade
See <trick> above - nothing matters unless it pays. You can't just pass a bounced paycheck onto your landlord and tell them it's their problem now.

take out a line of credit. then move somewhere.

Have you thought about trying to line up a job or at least some interviews before you move?
>>
hitchhike somewhere, never look back. either that or you don't have the courage to do it.

>line of credit
>after years of taking paychecks to the bank and hearing the checks are no good because the other bank account is empty

I can do this if I can network on a personal level, but if it's an e-apply job then I get completely and inescapably halted at the 'prior jobs' phase. I've had plenty, but none of them are reachable for contact because none of them are in business anymore. In other words, it can work if I know of a small business that's hiring. "Somebody is hiring somewhere" isn't enough to make a giant leap over. Sadly, this is really a non-solution because it doesn't take away any of the difficulties of getting there or settling there. If you can think of a way to land 'real' job with *zero* surviving prior employers, then I'm all ears. Otherwise, my long-term budget is limited to what entry level jobs can offer.

Hitchhiking the road to Arizona will get me to Arizona, if I survive. The market in Arizona is slightly better, but only slightly and I've already been there a few times. So what next, continue hiking to New Mexico or Utah? Not many openings there either. As I said in the first place, my best bet is probably a one-way bus to someplace - it's not *that* expensive. The problem is how to find a job that isn't e-apply, because all my old contacts are no longer reachable. (Out of business, or worse.)

How is it that you spent 10 years working for bad paychecks?

You know, there are jobs that require unskilled labor in the service sector. Stop being such a snob.
>>
Clarification: the problem is not GETTING there, the problem is how to get into a fastfood/retail/etc. job with decent hours and then find a place to stay until I make enough money to qualify for renting. All of my prior employers are out of business and most of my qualifications are sorely outdated.

Food ain't free, and I ain't asking for it to be free. I'm just asking where I can go that won't just tell me to keep going.

>How is it that you spent 10 years working for bad paychecks?

The money was ripped the fuck out, and when you take your check to the bank the bank tells you it's no good. Sometimes the government took the money, sometimes corrupt executives, sometimes it's just one dude skipping town. Whenever I was put out of pay I kept working for a while, but I would walk around the same building (usually a tower or campus of rental offices) and ask people if they needed help. What was the usual answer?

"Sorry, I can't even afford this office."

In one case, I got to meet the owner of the building who acted as landlord to these bosses. He couldn't afford the building anymore, because his tenants couldn't afford the rent.

Suit yourself, but it isn't a good practice to bump threads you don't like.
