No matter what I do
I always feel like I'm back at square one
I've joined a gym, worked out and got /fit/ for like two months now, made some new friends, done some uni work, kept myself busy, generally been very productive but I can't stop thinking about my fucking ex

Honestly, like others have said, go out and meet people. It sounds like you put your ex on a pedestal in your head, and you need to come to the realization that they're just... another person.
Stay busy, don't stop working out, and make a point of chatting up women that you're attracted to. Not even with the intention of pursuing them, but you need to hone your game.
