Ok /adv/, so last night I got text from some random number I'd never seen with a North Carolina area code (I'm in California) asking who I am. I just ignored it since they obviously had the wrong number, but now they've texted me again claiming that they have the picture I sent them (???) and that they've got the police "furious and looking into it".
At this point I'd had enough, I told whoever it is to fuck off and blocked their number. I realize this is most likely some kind of scam or something, but now I'm sitting here stressing out for some reason, wondering what the hell this could be about. Is there any way a 3rd party could have somehow used my phone number to send a picture to this person? I've never heard anything about this happening and it seems improbable, but I'm starting to get really anxious and paranoid now. Any input from you guys as to what could be going on would be much appreciated.
Have you ever done anything that could incriminate you? If so, was there anyone with a camera nearby?

Nope.

By blocking them you missed out on the third message, which would have been "Send us XXX dollars and we'll forget the whole thing"

Definitely a scam then, quit worrying. Even if it wasn't a scam you never give in to blackmail. There's no guarantee that after you do what they ask they won't just release whatever they had anyway, or continue to hold it over you demanding more money forever.
