Sup lads, first time on /adv/
I'm thinking about going homeless mode. The problem is that most homelessness advice centers on using one's car as shelter, and I don't have a working car. I have a car but it stays parked in my apartment's lot because the breaks and rotors are fucked up.
Rent is absolutely killing me and is unneccesary anyways. I only use my apartment to sleep and it's a mold-infested shithole anyways. Honestly I'll probably be healthier homeless.
I'm also a student so when the weather gets really rough I could always camp out in the union or a computer lab or something, but I guess the main issue with being homeless is where could I get a good night's sleep?
If you're going to be homeless in one area I'd suggest squatting, an empty house that's foreclosed or something, maybe it'll even have running water.

I'll be sticking around in one area. I'm still going to school and I'll be working, I just don't want to spend over 50% of my income on rent anymore when I need that money for tuition loans and food.
Is there any way I could leave my car in a parking lot long-term and sleep in it?
What kind of parking lots are available for this?

Different anon. I don't know where you live OP but here in New York police usually check parking lots for people sleeping in cars or around them.

I live in Norman OK and I go to OU.
I imagine vagrancy is a bigger problem in New York than in a ~100,000 populated college town.
But then again I really don't know. I don't want to get out there and then just slowly get worn down because I can never get any sleep.

That idea is stupid as fuck and you know it. Move to a different place if rent is killing you. I think you will really struggle being a good student if you're sleeping in your car all night.

I live in an efficiency unit, the rent is as low as it gets.
The problem is that I have trouble affording even that because I'm paying for my own school.
I need advice on making homelessness feasible, not on my decision to do it.

Well no, that's not true. Look into renting a room in someone's house, or if you don't actually need a room, you may be able to pay someone just for a space to sleep in a garage (not necessarily a legal space).

Maybe, but I don't know of anything like that being available.
If you don't have social ties to anyone go ahead and live in your car. If you do, people will be weirded out by this. Either way, you have to make sure your car is in very good condition to keep it going over the next few years. If not, you will likely become ACTUALLY homeless, like sleeping under a bridge and begging people for money. I'd avoid that at all costs.

It's so fucking hard to type "room for rent norman oklahoma" or whatever into google. And shit, no one ever posts ads for living space at universities.
