Is the military hard?

if you're a bitch.

Basic training is hard but other than that its the easiest job you will ever have. Impossible to get fired unless you start smoking crack or robbing liquor stores.

its certainly not lazy.
What about the navy? Has anyone here joined? How was it? What were the benefits vs wage slaving at a staples while trying to pay student loans?

What if you crack open a bottle of liquor in a smoke store?

you get a decent paycheck in addition to having your housing covered. they also have benefits that pay back your college for you without dipping into your wages if im not mistaken.
military bases offer decent shopping deals. if you get a wife you get great housing benefits (you can even consider marrying a dude friend who is directionless in life so that you dont have to worry about divorce down the road) etc.
my dad was navy. it was pretty cool for us as kids.

Depends on your role. Infantry will just be carrying heavy shit, doing training and above all: waiting around doing nothing.

This is actually something I've considered doing specifically for housing benefits. I feel marriage is a fairly antiquated concept, but getting married to a friend who could use the help is top notch. The only thing that I would be worried about is getting in trouble for fraud, but gay marriage is pretty acceptable and living in California I doubt anyone would even question it.

So. Free housing. Free meals. Free medical. Comradery. And afterwards: GI Bill. VA Healthcare (no tax penalty for opting out of Obamacare). VA home loan. Also if you stay in for 20 years you get a pension and you will still be young enough to earn a second retirement fund from a private company.

I've been in a long term relationship for 5 years so I figure that would also be a plus if we could get married through this (have no money right now).
She's just hesitant about military life and me being away for months.

If you have to ask, then yes.

and this is how a dependa is born.

i dont think anyone would, as long as you arent talking about it at work it doesn't really matter, or at least not to your superiors.

If you aren't extroverted and confident, there is a great chance that you will not like it.
Then you're stuck there for years. Make sure you'll love it before you enlist.
