A girlfriend usually offers better companionship, but requires not only an investment of money, but also time, effort, and a lot of compromise (family events when you want to be playing WoW). Girlfriends are also gains goblins if you don't find the right one. A hooker doesn't bring any of the baggage above, but can't offer you meaningful companionship. Also, she may rob you.
