I've grown up in quite a political household, lots of debating, discussion of current events etc. I was raised left wing and am happy with that-but now what I was raised to know as 'left' is shifting more and more to the right.

For example- I believe in not being racist and being tolerant of differences up to a point, but I also don't believe you can't confront cultural differences.I think there's a distinction between allowing for cultural food differences (such as halal or kosher) and being permissive with things that are completely opposed to most western countries values (such as polygamy or wife/child beatings). I certainly don't believe in letting everyone in to a country without checks.

I generally believe that gays and trans people are equal human beings and deserve rights-same with women. I don't however believe that they should be pussyfooted around, nor do I believe in gender fluidity.

I also believe in some form of a welfare state-but I do believe in working for it as well, and trying to get work.

Recently I was called 'right wing' by the resident SJW in my area- this shocked me. It feels like everything I identified with politically has somehow shifted away from where it used to be, and now I'm having a bit of a political identity crisis.

I don't want to use the monikers of 'left wing' or 'feminist' or whatever, as they've become totally alien to what I actually mean by the word, and was raised to believe.

How do I deal with this /adv/?
>>
take the redpill and save yourself from the crazies while you still have your wits about you is my advice

feminism was a ruse (and most of us fell for it)

I think you should remind yourself that there is nothing wrong with change, you're changing as a person and as you learn more your political views are bound to swing all across the spectrum. The people you hang out with also influnce you greatly, originally as a child you were left because maybe your family was, SJW who lives near you says you're being more right because you're in Uni and a majority of Uni students are right wing.

Remind yourself that it's okay to change, that as you grow and expirence more that your views will change, and that SJW cannot tell you who you are as a person. Sit down for a bit and rethink your political mindset then take a test and see where you land across the spectrum. No one is mad at you for changing views OP.

Honestly, The Red Pill stuff has never convinced me. I respect women- they respect me. I have an excellent relationship, and I don't believe all women are as that type say they are.
>>
>>18002813
The issue is, I don't think I have changed, beyond refining my positions a little with a better vocab and more experience. The essential ideas are still the same.

It's the spectrum that seems to have changed as people get more radical.
>>
"political identity crisis"
What the fuck, OP. How are you having a crisis over this? What's the problem?
>>
>>18002795
you're a pretty normal left-wing american anon
just ignore the crazy internet extremists who think eating taco bell is cultural appropriation
if you start listening to them/believing that the left is all "SJW bullshit" sooner or later you'll find yourself shitposting in pol and it'll be too late
>>
>>18002823
I'm not American. Australian. And left wing and right wing in Australia are absolutely retarded, even the moderates.
>>
>>18002819
Then fuck what everyone else is saying, stop being so sensitive over it and show them (respectfully) you disagree if they mention it again.

Or just ignore them and stop worrying about what other people think OP, you're reading too much into it.
>>
>>18002817
political redpill m8, not the one you're thinking of
>>
>>18002795
I was raised in a "politics is the work of Satan!!11!eleven" household, became a hardcore left-winger as a teenager, had my rebound fascist phase, now I'm a right-wing libertarian for the last few years and I doubt that will change.
Point being, people change. As the second anon said, you have to accept that. The people who once thought like you might not share your views anymore.
I'd say just stick to your guns, stand up for what you believe in, keep calling yourself left-wing if you want to. If you feel like it's too sullied a term these days, find some other movement to identify with.
>>
don't base your identity on vague labels.

also develop other interests.
>>
>>18002896
I have other interests, and other parts to my identity. This is just bothering me a bit, because of all the American election shiet bringing all that stuff to the surface in everyone.
>>
C'mon, anon, you're "loosing your political identity" because you don't perfectly fit in a label anymore? It doesn't matter.

Also you still sound like a leftist to me. The reason why the left seems to have become more extreme is a bunch of vocal clowns with hilariously stupid political ideas who hijacked it. Seriously, the left has become a joke because of those people. You guys better take your ideology back and make the left great again, otherwise most reasonable people will be pushed away from it. It's already happening, really. The right has won pretty much all important votes in the past year.
>>
>>18002911
Tell me about it. Whenever I try to point out the illogicalities of SJWs, I basically get blocked. Can't take back the movement back when no one will listen to me.

I don't think it helps that most of the old left is just that-old. Not great with computers, certainly not capable of contributing to the political discourse online (which, like it or not is becoming part of political life), so all anyone sees are the university aged SJWs.
>>
>>18002795
As you might notice from other people, it just means that you are growing up and understanding the deeper mechanics in society.

Neither left nor right are meant for long term, they are opposite reactions to whomever is in power.

Social justice is not justice when it only serves one side of the justice plate. Reminds of the "People liberation army" crap we see in Africa and third world.

As you grow, you will understand deeper that logics or facts have little relevance. Emotions and the masses is what matters.

Then people like you will have a bitter life, watching idiocracy and fixing the society machine they try to break. You're neither left nor right. What you have is called good sense.

these crazy SJW who think that white males are the cause of all evil and that there are 59 genders are just fringe extremists.

/pol/ and friends digs these people up and makes them seem ubiquitous just so their own batshit views look sane by comparison.

Also, Most people in life don't have cookie cutter political view: ie. someone might be a leftwing socialist but be against gays and gay marriage, you might have a conservative that is ok with immigration etc.

If you divide every ideology into "left" and "right" you will obvious be group with some people you hate
>>
>>18002795
There are some key things you need to realize about modern politics.

The "Left" side isn't Liberal anymore, they are "progressives" to straight SJW totalitarian communists.

The "Right" side hasn't been Conservative since Nixon, and went from "Religious" too more "Nationalist"

Also the modern SJW is doing the same thing that the USSR did, which is scream "Right Wing Extremist!" at everyone who isn't extremely left leaning as they are.

In my opinion, the biggest thing one needs to learn is to not be so partisan. You can like ideas from both sides, and not have to dedicate yourself to one or the other. The whole "right and left" stemmed from the French revolution because of where certain parties sat during political debates and such.
