Have any of you deleted your Facebook?

I bought into the hype a couple years back and have a lot of cool people added as friends on it but I never talk to any of them and i'm starting to think it isnt worth it to support what's basically an analytics company.
>>
I've deleted it about 6 years ago. Never regretted it. You won't lose contact with the people that are worth it
>>

Pros
>social media is cancer

Cons
>lose connections with people you don't care about but might need later
>may be out of loop on certain parties or events
>sometimes people from long ago will hit you up on Facebook

"You won't lose contact with the people that are worth it" kek
If you live your entire life in a small town I guess

I moved countries once and mainly have friends who don't give a fuck about social media of any kind, or spend much time online for that matter
They still all had facebook because there were class groups we shared notes, events and homeworks on.
Had I deleted my facebook I would have lost contact with them. They barely use that either but there is more reason to visit the website often than if it was just me emailing them.
So we rarely chat there but wouldn't miss a meeting with each other because one of us hadn't check their email or someshit.
Keep in mind they don't use other chat or social media apps. But still good friends of mine.
Facebook is used for it's convenience.
You can always use a fake name if privacy bothers you. If you don't add a bunch of normies and get into arguements with strangers nobody will report you.

deleted mine in 2012. pretty great decision. i created one just to manage pages for my business and various projects but as you can imagine its not the same. i did end up adding two friends I work with (so now i literally only have 2 friends on facebook with a fake name, no face) and from there I liked a few pages because sometimes if i got nothing to do i can scroll through their posts. mostly news stuff.

but i dont really miss the social part of it
>>

not samefag but
isnt that what the cc line in email is for?
How are you an adult and not check email once a day?

good point on the convenience though
>>
>>17997496
I really don't get you special snowflake types. You're like the people who won't get a smartphone because for some reason they think carrying a camera, flip phone, and gaming device all at e same time is somehow "better."

All you're doing is depriving yourself of a major convenience. All that deleting your Facebook does is make people forget about you, or have to take an irritating extra step to get in touch with you when they really could just communicate with the majority of their friends on one platform. Reminds me of one of my buddies that did this - he deleted Facebook and then got all sad that he wasn't invited out all the time, and we'd be like "well dude we invited everyone on fa- oh." So every time, not to hurt this guy's feelings, we'd have to make a special note to call him, when the rest of the communication about the party or event was happening on Facebook.

>>17997666
I check my work email all the time, but my personal email? Nah. I don't even know the email addresses of 98% of the people I know, so I'm literally only checking my email to see if I have something from my bank, parents, or grandparents.

Anyways, feel free to delete it if you want, but don't come back crying that you lost all of your friends and need to learn how to make new ones, since you severed your connection with the old.
>>

>Have any of you deleted your Facebook?

yes when I realize social media is for girls and because I don't give a shit about others peoples lives.
>>
>>17997496
Deleted 2 years ago, don't regret it whatsoever. It's nicer to live a bit more "off the grid" in social media aspects. There's plenty of other ways to keep in touch with relatives and friends.
I deleted because of my own issues with envy and comparing my life to everyone elses, after I deleted I cared a lot less about "keeping up".
>>
Facebook is dead anyway.

It's all about Whatsapp, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and snapchat.
>>
I didn't delete mine but I haven't used it in like 7 years
>>
>>17997496
No, but I got my account permanently frozen because I posted porn in WHAT I THOUGHT WAS a group that allowed pornposting.

There went 500 bucks worth of farmville cows and my business with them.
>>
>>17997699
You just admitted yourself that you use it because everyone else does. If it's such an annoying inconvenience to send a message to a friend outside of facebook then why even talk to the guy?

There are perfectly good alternatives out there that dont send your every move to advertisers.
>>
>>17997699
Absolutely agree, especially when you travel a lot you can't keep up with all the people by mail, lol. I've met old friends in other countries cities because they saw on Facebook that I'm there, found someone who bought all my shit when I moved out, friends linked their friends on my post looking for a flat and so one. Sure, delete it if you don't actually have a social life and just 2 friends, but it's absolutely counterproductive if you have a worldwide network of friends and especially when you're still young, and have a lot happening in your life.
>>
>Disabled account
>Re-activate 3-4 times a week to stalk/perv on women then disable again

Jerking off to old, low-res images of girls you haven't seen in over a decade sure beats having a real sex life, wouldn't you agree?
>>
>>17997666
I am in college and literally know none of my friends' email addresses other than the ones I worked with.
I have to remind you that I moved countries and not every one of them does things online like the US. People I known from there don't check their emails because important stuff comes in paper in the mail.
>>
>>17997808

Yes, I use it because everyone else does. Because it has the largest network that makes my life EASIER. If everyone used Twitter, I'd use that. If everyone used MySpace, I'd use that. If everyone used a series of cans tied together with string, I'd use that. It is pure and simple convenience.

It's not that I don't want to talk to the guy, it's just that I and my friends have to go through an extra special step to keep him in the loop, when he could just join the group and the ongoing communication.

It's like having a meeting at work, but one person refuses to sit in the meeting room, so you have to have someone bring him notes every single time and explain what was talked about. Then he has input, which is an extra step to go back to everyone in the meeting and say what he had to say.

I'm sorry if you think that any of those other social media applications aren't collecting and selling your data, because oh boy are they. Facebook just happens to be the biggest.

>from there
referencing to country I moved out from
>>
>>17997573
Don't you have a fucking phone?
>>
>>17997860
I had to get a new phone dumbass
Ever heard of
>overseas fees
>number change

>inb4 free messaging
whatsapp wasn't a thing then and my hungarian friends still don't use snapchat kik or other apps but facebook and their messenger is free ;)
>>
>>17997860

Not that poster, but again, it's all about convenience. I can't afford the time to call all of the people I care about to see how they're doing. I can't afford to call internationally, where some of my friends and family are. If you're the kind of person who only has 10-15 people they want to keep in contact with, sure, go ahead and delete your presence on social media.

I personally have 1,200 friends on Facebook, and while I'm sure I could prune that to something like 1,000 or so without too much loss, I still care about seeing how people that were once a part of my life are doing. I couldn't possibly call all of them, nor would I want to call to spend 30 minutes on the phone in some kind of small talk.

Especially since that guy sounds a little like me, in that he's met a ton of different people from a ton of different places, it's an important tool, and also great for networking.

If you haven't left your bubble much, I could see why it wouldn't make sense, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way... Some people just don't want to.
>>
>>17997871
And that too. Having everyone at the same place. Being able to check up on them.
I don't hate or want to delete my social media. I have about 300 people there, most from real life and some online friends. I don't get jealous and if the feed gets annoying I can not log in for a while, but I would still get notified if a friend messaged me.
I have also used it's groups to sell and buy clothes and furniture, to advertise pages and discuss hobbies.
>>
I've never used facebook, never made an account, never will. I don't know any of those other services. I have two friends in my life and I talk daily to them and I'm fine and okay.
Then again I'm schizoid and couldn't care less about any of that shit.
>>
>>17998333
>two friends in my life and I talk daily to them
wait was this a schizo joke?
>>
FB's best assest is keeping you informed of whats going on in your city's social life. Tons of people will throw parties and only send out invites over FB, but otherwise forget to hit you up personally if you arent on it.

Also, meeting people from foriegn countries who you may want to keep in contact with for future is super helpful via fb friend requests. For example, i may meet someone from australia and may never talk to them again, but if i end up traveling to Australia in 5 years, it might be nice to shoot them a message
