I had an interview at Publix a couple weeks ago but have not heard back. Should I give them a call asking what my status is or is that poor interview etiquette?

You should have followed up with them after one week, and maybe writing a "Thank You" letter for the opportunity. Those kinds of things will help you stand out from other applicants.

the getting a job dance:
1) send your cover letter + resume // fill the form // whatever
2) wait a month
3) if they didn't contact you, send a letter telling them you're still interested in a job (not really necessary but increases your chances)
4) most companies respond to that within 2 weeks, if nothing move on
5) do the interview(s)
6) after the interview send an email to the interviewer thanking them for the interview (not really necessary but increases your chances)
7) wait a week or two (if they don't contact you themselves)
8) send them a new letter asking them if they have decided already
