It's just a matter of the grass being greener. No doubt you could argue why either is objectively superior, but the people who say they want that small town life are basing it on a romantic idea of what it could be, just like you are.

There's many guys on here who only need the info that you were highschool sweethearts with your girlfriend in a small town to picture you as a cute bright-eyed couple walking hands in hands everywhere, going on adventures in the area (because safe), being a familiar sight for the friendly town people, growing up the way people might have fifty years ago as well. You know better.

Likewise, you are probably picturing yourself having pornstar type sex with a stunning stranger, great memorable highs with friends from all walks of life and what not. Casual sex with someone you don't know can be real fucking awkward, and more often than not it's just a matter of plain old conventional sex because few people really have the guts and confidence to be kinky and without inhibitions with someone they simply don't know.
Drugs can make you feel grand and they can make you feel more miserable than you thought you could be. There's also a shitty in between stage where the pleasure is superficial and you have this existential dread like - is this really it? This is the best my day is going to get, this is the ultimate fun for me?
Or being at a party trying to score drugs or get laid while making boring small talk and telling yourself that no, that look you got wasn't disapproving you're just making things up.

Basically, some people are suited better to one life than the other. But very very few people will have as much fun in this setting as one could possibly have, reality is always more watered down and conflicted.

Yeah, the whole place is a huge novelty compared to my old life, so obviously I see it being hipper and cooler than it is.

Still though, for people that are a bit extroverted, like me, and like to do new things, being in a large city with more freedom feels infinitely better than a boring small town.

On the other hand, I'm sure many posters here would love to have lived my life.
