I have a very academic interest in religion, I enjoy reading books about theology etc in my free time. Religious music, prayer, weekly service take up a lot of my time.

But I don't really apply very much of it to my own life. I'm pretty much just constantly getting drunk, smoking weed and watching porn. I'm known at work for dirty jokes etc.

I'm approaching my mid-20s with no education past high school and don't really want to spend the rest of my life in shitty factories barely making enough to live on rice and chicken.

So do I become a hypocrite preacher?

Any religious colleges are essentially free - you get grants as long as you go right into preaching after graduation. But at the same time I feel horribly guilty even just thinking about it --- you're supposed to do that because you want to please God, not treat it like a trade school simply to earn a living.

BUT then I also think maybe if I'm placed in a more conservative environment (possibly overseas) it would help self-motivate to actually put all the knowledge into action and be less of a terrible person in my own life.

I know the whole topic will generally get shit on but I'm hoping at least a few people will have useful input
>>
What denomination are you looking to get into?
Probably not a good idea to become a preacher if you don't already have the motivation to drop your bad habits. It's kind of hard to lead other people in the right direction when you're still headed in the wrong one.

Just admit it. You're a weak person.

I can't tell if this is ironic shitposting or if you're trying to be serious

Very interesting infographic...

It's extremely misleading. For example, it claims lines that read something like "and the sun rose" as being contradictory to lines that read something like "and the sun set"
It was also put together by people that have apparently never taken basic literature courses, as it completely ignores the contexts and takes an extremely literal viewpoint on everything on top of bending things to contradict others even when they clearly do not.
It's pretty much what you'd expect a group of new atheists to make.

Ha, funnily enough I've found myself in sort of a similar thing, on a more overal religious/spiritual thing thing. I've always been very into new age stuff, religion etc, always tongue in cheek, even though I have had pure and proper spiritual experiences in church. A lot of people tend to ask me shit for obscure reasons, from tarot readings to just opinions, and lately I'm always defending christianity on facebook. So basically I like the talk but I don't walk the walk because I like my current life too much. I could also explain to you how this is what god actually wants and that giving up all the tarot and magic and shit would be actually following him. It's a bizarre state of mind for me, I can sort of split things I do in one aspect of my life and continue on with the other. However that's pretty hypocritical.

What I don't get is whether or not you truly believe. If you do, there might be some benefit to you becoming a preacher, or moving to a more conservative environment. However if you don't really, and it's just curiosity like myself, I'd stay away. There are other ways to get your life under control that don't involve other people - and especially not a do as i do, not as I say stuff.

I don't know, I'm sort of thinking about the old Genesis song, "Jesus he knows me". If you have a tendency towards self-gratification, it's going to be very hard and I think that trying to become a preacher and using that as a way of keeping yourself in line will make you feel very guilty but will not be effective.
Life changes tend to happen when you feel GOOD doing the change, not when you feel bad. That's why people stay fat and don't go to the gym, because on sheer willpower and gritted teeth you don't make it.

Anyhow I guess the TL;DR version is sort yourself out first before you assume responsibility over how other people should lead their lives.

I honestly think if you could somehow fuse the piety of Islam and the more popular elements of Catholicism such as Mary and rituals, sort of a Reformed Islam but maybe crypto Islam so you don't get killed? I don't know I'll let you figure out the finer points.

Anyway making a legit Chrislam is I believe the religion for the next 1000 years.

As I understand the thread Catholics are actually desperate for Priests that aren't pedophiles, like if you can clear a background check you will get a job day one. Its because the bad rap made people stay away and the religions kinda dying out a bit. But all the Baby Boomer Priests are dying.

People are definitely thirsty for a Donald Trump type of guy, even if you were a straight 100% Baptist, you would raise eyebrows by just lambasting sinners, thats another idea.

Also I want to make clear that my post was about finding angles to make some money more than anything.
>>
You should feel guilty. What a shitty waste of life.

You know God isn't real right? If that's what you wanna do anon, preach about some fucking invisible pleb in the sky who lets niggers starve to death and die errday while I shit post on 4chan, then be my guest, but you're an idiot.

>quibbling over bullshit when the dumbass bible is constantly and clearly contradicting itself

Just don't take it literally is all I'm saying.
>>
>>17977453
>posts a bad infographic
>whines about contradiction
Do you not see the problem here?
>>
>>17977446
>s I understand the thread Catholics are actually desperate for Priests that aren't pedophiles, like if you can clear a background check you will get a job day one
Catholic priests are required to take 8 years of schooling. Maybe day 1 after those 8 years, but definitely not off the street or even just picked out of any given church congregation
>>17977449
If you're trying to make money then you'll find very little.Priests don't make much unless they're skimming money off the top of the collection basket, and it's very easy to tell when that's happening and you'll go to prison for it.
>>17977452
>What a shitty waste of life.
>while I shit post on 4chan
This is while people hate atheists, you guys are simultaneously militantly self righteous and extremely unintelligent.
>>
>>17978334
>simultaneously militantly self righteous and extremely unintelligent
It's like you were trying to win a bet for most descriptive words fit in a sentence. You're not impressing anyone here. Not that guy, but if you're so intelligent, stop taking b8. We're just fucking with you because we think you're a hubris moron and you're proving us right.
>>
>>17977435
>could also explain to you how this is what god actually wants and that giving up all the tarot and magic and shit would be actually following him.
I've had the same thought process: maybe even though I'm not very devout right now I at least have the academic groundwork and if I put myself in a strict, dry, sex segregated university campus I'll actually START "practicing what I preach"

>>17977449
For those reading thethread this guy is NOT op (I am) alghtough he's basically right, I'm considering this as a way to acquire marketable skills same as any form of education.

>>17977446
They have that in Nigeria I think - or one of those 50-50 Muslim-Christian African countries
>>
>>17978550
>You're not impressing anyone here.
If you think any of those words were impressive then you need to go back to the fucking second grade
>We're just fucking with you because we think you're a hubris moron and you're proving us right.
>hubris moron
That doesn't even make sense
goddamn are atheists stupid
>>
>>17978771
>Anon is disciple of Jesus
>Jesus' disciples were fisherman
>Anon is expert at taking b8
It all makes sense now
