I used to have friends, and guess what - none of them went on 4chan. And they'd look at me weird when I mentioned it.

I've taken a first step though - I'm going on /g/ instead of /pol/, and I haven't been on /g/ regularly for a long time. I'm hoping /g/ will get me interested in tech again so I can apply for a job and actually seem interested in it.

If you do try and quit though then power to you, but as I say, I think it's necessary to get something else in place, rather than try and quit cold turkey, otherwise you'll just come back here and then hate yourself for not achieving your self-imposed goal.

I've known people since school who browse 4chan, popular kids did it, when I went to university, loads of people (including women) used 4chan, I've worked with people throughout my career who use 4chan and known managers who use it.

some weeks I go on 4chan everyday, others I get sick of it and rarely check it. Anyways, like I said, I live a double life online and off. I have friends offline, I've never been socially awkward, I can be funny when I want to be, and I go out and do shit with friends. I still have issues with depression and anxiety, hence why I come here some times, but overall I'm not your stereotypical 4chan neet.

What I am trying to say is that you can have balance. You can come to this site and still balance a normal life offline, you just have to be able to understand that people here are usually fucking around and you shouldn't take things seriously here. I have depression and am a sad sack of shit so while 4chan didn't ruin my life, it certainly gave me a good space to not be productive. I am pretty sure the board with the highest proportion of NEETS is /jp/ at 25% and they are a very small board. 25 million unique IP's a month. Does it have a higher proportion of NEETs than most sites? Yes, but you can't use 4chan unless you have a computer, or phone I guess, and an internet connection. Those things cost money.

You can feel connected through similar experiences and interests which is pretty cool but no replacement if you're missing actual relationships. And that validation of the weirdo experience and dismission of the rest might not be doing you a favor if what you really want is participing more in your life and relationships, yeah.
