So a few months ago, I was involved with someone I really dug - younger than me but intellectually similar, just too emotionally immature, I felt, for a real relationship. She was in an open thing but realized she loved me and wanted to leave her boyfriend for me, which I ultimately told her not to, since I didnt think that would be the basis for a good relationship.
Since then I have started dating someone new. She's gorgeous, kind, and gets me out of my comfort zone. We've done all kinds of stuff I wouldn't ordinarily do. We get along great. We've been dating about two months now.
The problem is this new woman and I aren't intellectually compatible. Our politics are basically opposite (and politics are insanely important to me), and she believes whole-heartedly in a ton of things I think are absolutely retarded. She does tarot readings about our relationship; believes in alchemy; thinks she's smarter than everyone and can master any subject in a few mere weeks, doesn't understand the difference between a technical certification and a bachelors degree, and all these other sort of smlal-but-cumulatively-very-irritating characteristics. Talks about crystals and energy and uses 'quantum entanglement' to justify it all. I thought I could get over it all, but it really grates at me.
I still have a chance with the first girl. She knows I'm dating (and she is to) and still keeps talking to me. I fucking hate cheaters, having been cheated on, and I'm not gonna do that to this wonderful slightly kooky woman.
How important is intellectual compatibility, /adv/? I just don't know if I can see myself long term with someone so different, but I think it'd probably be a mistake to leave her for someone younger and emotionally immature.
Feeling very confused and kind of like an asshole for even thinking these things.

But I feel like a piece of shit for thinking of someone else so often while with her, and I don't think she'll ever change her mind about her silly mystical beliefs. She's into Trump and I'm a no-shit communist. She doesn't like feminism and being a feminist is important to me. We're just so super fuckin different.
But she's also so kind and makes me laugh, gets me singing and dancing (which I've never done), gets along great with people. We just go on little adventures together and we had an absolutely incredible new years.
The younger girl is like...super smart, has beliefs like mine, is dynamite in bed, but doesn't get along with my friends. She's awkward. She rejected me twice to stay in her open relationship and didnt realize she wanted me until after I started dating.
I know I ought to just cut off this younger girl and keep going with the sweet lady but like...she thinks weed cures cancer. She embodies everything I disagree with but I love spending time with her.

They both suck desu OP. Keep seeing your current girl and when you're done with her break up. It doesn't sound like it has long term potential, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it while it lasts. Try to educate her if you feel motivated.

Yeah. She wants to leave him (and he lives in another city) so if she did, he'd be out of the picture....but its like, she's been cheating with me (he ended the open thing when she fell in love with me) and like they say, once a cheater, always a cheater.
But the girl I'm currently dating wants to do something long term and I do too, and I'm just not sure that's possible with such irreconcilable life views.
