I'm stuck with a dilemma. I have the option of studying abroad, but I cant seem to make a choice. I've narrowed it down to 2 options:
-Liverpool (John Moores University)
-Alabama (Troy University)
I like liverpool because it's closer to me (I'm Belgian), cheaper, and has a bigger nightlife. It's also a pretty big city.
However, i also like Troy, Alabama. I've always wanted to experience American college life, it's also much more of a culture shock. It's a lot more expensive and the Troy is a small town (20k), so i'm not sure about the nightlife.
What do i do, /adv/?
Any other students here who studied abroad?

You've chosen two fifth-level barely-accredited schools. Why? In Britain just about every "university of [county]" and in America every single "University of [state]" and "[Name of state] State University" is superior.

I am well aware of the lackluster level of education.

Then why?

Because I value the experience much higher. I understand your concern but the level of education only marginally interests me.

OK
Moores is a shit university in a rundown city that has pretty good club life, though the people you meet at the clubs will look down their noses at you for being at a shit school.
Troy is a shit school in a small Alabama town with nothing going for it at all. You cannot exaggerate the provincialism, anti-intellectualism and xenophobia of small-town America, and small-town southern America is beyond belief.

Hmm, that seems like a bummer. These two were my initial choices. Would you recommend other countries? Let's try to look behind the mediocrity of education and more to the city/country life.

What about University of Illinois in Chicago? Loads of international students and you are in a major city.

Sadly, my school only has 2 connections outside of Europe (its because our govt only supports Erasmus). The one ive mentioned and one in China. It has a load of options for Europe. Germany,sweden,denmark,spain,portugal,finland,greece,...

Oh jesus. I don't know about Liverpool, but don't go to Alabama. Avoid most of the southern US (Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi especially), except major cities, and even then it might be a bit of a gamble.
Midwest and the coasts are generally OK. I'd still stick to bigger cities though.

What about the University of Manchester in the UK? Good night life, travel links (airport) and overall quite a reputable university as well as still giving you the cultural experience?
I looked up Troy, Alabama and found a list of 11 (lol) things to do. One of them was going to the movies.
LOL

This must be a troll. Why the fuck would you want to go to some nowhere town in Alabama?
