My parents want to buy a shop because they've been saving money in their bank account for some time and "they don't know what to do with it".
I personally don't want to buy it, it's not bad, but I just don't know what we'll do with it, mostly everyone shops on amazon and etc, because it's cheaper and faster.
They say it'll be an investment and if we don't want to use it, we'll rent it.
That's a fucking terrible idea, OP.
Retails spaces are a shit investment.
I'm betting your folks know dick about running a store/franchise or even what they'd put in there, and renting a single space isn't going to be profitable (that's why malls are a thing).
If they've got enough money to buy a retail space they've got enough money to buy a home which is far more valuable both in terms of building equity and rental income.

not always
but yes buying a shop seems really foolish

As long as they're leasing the space, and not trying to be involved owners in a business, I see potential.
If they want the headache of staffing management for a business, that's a whole 'nother story.
I'd convince them to clean it up really good, and lease the space to some business.

The other anons are right on retail.
If they're set on having a business, how about providing a service? Tax season is around... your senpai dont have to spend money on material, just on advertising, space to rent, misc. It might be too late now, but do think for the future
