Hi /adv/
I'm a reference for my friend who is being interviewed for a job which specifically asked for a friend as a reference along with professional contacts. I have to complete a form where I rate 18 aspects of his personality on a scale of 1-10. For over half of them I gave him a 10, I just want to know before I turn it in how that looks to an employer. Would you not take it seriously if I gave him great reviews for everything because I'm his friend and of course I'm going to want to make him look good? My scores for him are how I actually feel and I'm not going to artificially give him lower scores to make it seem more realistic, I'm just curious if the credibility of my reference is ruined if I only rate him 9's and 10's.

That's fine. They assume the ratings will be high - after all, he wouldn't choose you if you were going to low-rate him. They want to see if there's a pattern and if any of their red flags go up. For example, unless it's a sales job, an 8 or 9 in verbal communication won't hurt him, but anything below a 10 for moral character will. An 9 in self-confidence or driving won't hurt.

Yeah I was thinking that a highly positive reference wouldn't appear as out of the norm to an employer

And I'm not quite certain what it means by driving habits
10 is fine.
If you gave them a 9/8, they would create doubt/concern about why they are not 10.
People want assurance, whether they be real or fake. They don't care.

But for everything?

Yes

How do you know this is the way to go? Are you an employer that has seen this before when looking to hire people?

is he an aggressive driver or a defensive one? Does he get pissed while driving? that's what they mean,

Okay that makes sense, I would give him a 10 for that

Give him all 20s
