The fallout series hits most of that criteria, the whole series is good but the newer ones are more streamlined and easier to get into them the older ones.

Bioshock sounds like it would fit what you're looking for as well.

Lisa the painful RPG is another one you should look into.

I've played all the games above and honestly, highly recommend all of them. All of them are unique expriences that are a blast from start to finish.

I haven't played alot of rust so I can't have a definitive opinion on it, but a lot of my buddies seem to like it, and despite it bring clunky and a little rough around the edges it seems very fun. There's still a ton of people playing it so hopefully you'll always find a full game.
Its probably gonna go on sale because the winter sale is in a day or two. I'd pick it up then.
