Common in joints. It's a miniature version of "cracking" a joint. I get them in my knees all the time.
As long as the joint doesn't hurt and is stable (not moving abnormally far from one side to the other), then you're fine.
A common method of stopping the popping is to exercise the area, to strengthen the muscles and add more stabilization.
