Got invited to a party this weekend, but the only person I'll know there is the host. I'm going to ask the host if I can bring a friend along, and won't go to the party if I can't. What's the most polite way to say that?

>"Hey, is it okay if I bring a friend along?"
It's not a big deal, most people don't mind at all if there's more people at their party. Just leave out the part of not coming if you can't, that's the only rude bit.

What do I do if they say I can't bring a friend along? I feel like by asking, I'm creating the expectation that I'll be there.

It doesn't matter
And in all likeliness they'll say ya
This is not an issue just ask

Then just say you made a promise to hang out with the friend before you even knew about the party and can't really bail. But most likely they will say it's fine and it won't be an issue at all.

"Hey, you're the only person I know there, can I bring a friend along? I'll pick someone cool, don't worry."
>If no
"Come on, nigga. He/she is not a cop."
>If still no
"Sorry, I don't feel like going without my friend this time."
